Halloween costumes

Just last week on Friday we had to dress up because Halloween was on that Sunday and we wanted to just have a fun day around it. But before they day came around we had to write a persuasive piece of writing on what our teacher should dress up as on that day I choose Dora the Explorer. But sadly mine didn't get picked but it was a really fun day that I am really grateful to have a teacher that does this type of stuff with us. Here is my writing now for why Miss Wilson should be Dora the explorer.

Dora the Explorer

Dora Dora Dora the Explorer! Yes, you got it right for Halloween you're going to be Dora because why not? She was a total icon when everyone was younger so you are going to be bringing her back for everyone. By the end of this writing you should definitely be Dora because it is an easy to make costume, it is going to make such a statement, and the cost is so affordable.

To start off this writing everyone needs to know why we dress up on Halloween. The answer for this question is that when the ancient celtic festival of samhain went on people would light bonfires and dress up in costumes to help ward off any ghosts. Then later on that day came to be Halloween.

My first reason on why being Dora for Halloween would be a good idea is because it is such an easy to make costume. Everyone else has probably gone ahead and made such a hard costume that you can’t find at any of your local stores but that’s not the case for mine because the shop could just be at your house. What I mean by this is that the costume is mainly just made up of clothes that could be lying around your house. Because the shirt is just a plain pink top, with plain orange shorts, yellow socks, and white shoes, a purple backpack, and a brown bob wig with a fringe and if you don’t have these items you would be able to find them at the warehouse or good as gold.

Do you want to make a statement on Halloween well having Dora the explorer as your costume it definitely will. As I said at the start of my writing, Dora the explorer was a total icon when everyone was little so everyone is going to know who you are and have a great laugh when they see you walk into the school. So come on you know that being Dora the explorer is going to be such a great costume to wear on Halloween.

My last reason for why you need to be Dora for Halloween is because the cost is super low and affordable. Every year you are buying something to wear on Halloween and you’re spending so much money just to wear it for one day but if you choose my costume it will be so low costing because most of the things might already be around your house and if they’re not then you can buy them from cheap places around the warehouse, or good as gold and they are cheap stores that have t-shirts for the price of around $5.00. So as you can see choosing my costume will give you so much convenience because it is so cheap and you can wear it again.

In conclusion, you can see that my costume is an easy to make that will only take a few minutes, will make a total statement, and the cost is so low and affordable. Hopefully now that you have read my writing you will think about why you should pick my costume.

Pet day writing

About two weeks ago Awahono School had Pet day. Pet day sadly this year was not the same because of Covid because we couldn't bring our pets but we still got to show of our pets on our pet day projects and do some fun workshops around out pets and animals. For our projects we had to have three pieces of writing on it an information report, procedural writing, and a narrative. Today I will be showing you my information report on my pet calf Boris and calves in general. Hope you enjoy.

Calves

Have you ever heard of a Belgian Blue calf? One that is so friendly and tame that they could easily be a dog? While I have because that is my pet Belgian Blue cross Friesian calf Boris. A.K.A the best pet calf in the world. By the end of this writing you should be informed on a Belgian Blues appearance, diet, and their habitat.

Belgian Blue calves are a calf breed that has originated from Belgium and are such an interesting breed because of their amazing features. One of their features that will really catch your eye is their bulky muscle that is packed onto them which is called double muscling and the reason for this feature is because it is where they can lack a type of protein that can regulate muscle growth. If you were to see a Belgian Blue you would see the amazing colours of a bluey black colour and white that merge together and make an amazing coat of bluey blacks, whites, and greys. They can also have a red colour which is caused by adding other genes to it. To round it all off  they are so cute and fluffy and when you run your fingers through their fur it feels like a warm fluffy blanket that you could wrap yourself up into.

A Belgian Blue’s diet can vary from a whole heap of different things. After a calf has just been born they will be fed around 4 litres of sweet warm day one colostrum milk, given in 2 feeds, the first consists of 2 litres within the first 6 hours of birth with the additional 2 litres given within 12 hours of birth. Then after that they will be fed colostrum milk every day for 4 days  with normal  whole fresh milk following the days after. My calf Boris starts off his morning by  getting about 5-6 litres of milk, this is something that every calf will get because milk is one of their main sources of food. Along with having his milk he gets given about two huge handfuls of meal which he shares with his mate Tank, and they will eat this amount over a period of one day. They get meal given to them when they are around two days old. This allows them to explore and become familiar with the food that they will be consuming when it is time to ween them. Giving them time to  try the meal will make it easier for them when that is their main source of food.  With Boris we gave it to him when he was about 2-3 weeks old  because we hadn’t gotten around to feeding it to him . The last thing that I give my calf Boris is grass which is one of his favourite sources of food to eat. I started to introduce grass to him when he was about 3-4 weeks old. He also gets given fresh water everyday which is a necessity for them.

Lastly to wrap off this piece of writing you will get to know about their habitat and where they live throughout their life. The first place they start off their journey is a calf pen or any shed that has a type of bedding that calves can live on. Boris right now is still in a shed on a bed of sawdust because it is easier for me to access him and to get him outside I lead him around so he can eat the grass and stretch his legs. After the phase of them being in a shed they will start to get big and the space will be too small for them to live their life. Once this occurs you will need to move them outside into a paddock that is going to keep your calf  happy and free. They will then basically stay outside for the rest of their lives because that is just what their habitat mostly consists of.

In conclusion, Belgian Blue calves are really cool and special animals that have such an amazing cute appearance, a simple diet that you can easily feed them, and a simple habitat that you are able to keep them in to help them live. So the next time you consider buying a calf remember my writing because honestly Belgian Blues are fantastic calves to have and make your day so much more enjoyable.

Maths art

Right now in room six we are doing maths bingo with is a maths program that makes us do one maths activity a week then highlight the one you did. For this week I did the geometric art activity where we had to go and watch a video on how to create this cool looking piece of art and then go and create it using measurements and a ruler. Here is my piece of art.

shopping list (maths)

This week in class we have to do one activity from the maths bingo sheet. I decided to choose the shopping list activity, this required us to go onto countdown with a budget of $100 and buy some food for a birthday party and then add up the total and try to see how close we got to the $100. This is my shopping list.

How To Make Butter

On Fridays in the middle session of school we are doing science rotations around different classes. The first two week we have been in Room 5 and have been enjoying our time in their doing the water cycle and the different stages of cream. Today we made the ice cream and butter. This has been a really fun activity and Delicious.

How to make Butter:

Utensils:
Jar with lid
Hands!

  1. The first step to making the perfect creamy butter is you need to pour some cream in a jar you can add as much as you like and make sure you put a lid on.
  2. Next you need to shake the cream like never before!
  3. The first stage you will get when you make the cream is a whipped cream which is perfectly good. Now you will start seeing the cream separate, you just need to keep on shaking and don't stop. Then the cream will start to form which is so satisfying to see.
  4. It is also optional to add salt or herbs to make a flavour of butter.
  5. Now you have the perfect butter made out of cream!
